Election Day dawned on Tuesday as thousands of polling stations in New York City opened for residents to cast their votes in the pivotal presidential race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump and key rounds of voting.

The polling stations are open until 9 p.m. After a million votes were cast in early voting in the Big Apple, the city’s election authority is expecting long lines at polling stations on Tuesday. If you are online at your polling station during closing time, do not leave – you will then have the opportunity to cast your vote.

New York has 26 electoral votes up for grabs. Harris is considered the favorite to win the Empire State as no Republican has won New York since Ronald Reagan in 1984.

New Yorkers will also vote in similarly influential local elections for Senate, House of Representatives, State Senate, State Assembly, and Supreme Court and Civil Court judges. Voters will also answer six state and local ballot questions.

Gov. Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James were at the helm Efforts this year to combat misinformation who intentionally or unintentionally disrupt the voting process. They also reminded New Yorkers of their rights when voting in person.
