The downtown spot known for its over-the-top shakes offers a freebie for marathon runners on Sundays

Detroit Free Press Marathon runners beware: A freebie awaits you after the race.

If you’re taking part in the 47th annual Detroit Free Press Marathon presented by MSU Federal Credit Union on Sunday, you know you’ll probably burn a lot of calories.

But runners can replenish their calories after crossing the finish line with a free treat at a downtown restaurant.

On Sundays only, Jo Jo’s Shakebar in the Detroit District distributes free basic shakes, hot chocolate or hot apple cider to marathon runners. To receive the free offer, runners must show their bib number or medal at the restaurant. Plain shakes typically cost $10.

Jo Jo’s Shakebar is located on pedestrian-friendly Columbia Street between Woodward Avenue and Park Avenue.

Known for its over-the-top shakes, Jo Jo’s Shakebar also offers craft cocktails and classic bar fare like wings, burgers, and fries. Soups, salads and main courses are also available.

Detroit’s Jo Jo’s Shakebar’s annual festive fall pumpkin patch is in full swing. JoJo’s Shakebar transforms into a pumpkin patch with fall decorations, seasonal menu offerings and fall activities.
