The Cleveland Browns star would welcome a trade with this NFC team

The Cleveland Browns will almost certainly sell more pieces after jettisoning wide receiver Amari Cooper, and one of their top candidates appears to be edge rusher Za’Darius Smith.

Smith’s name has come up in plenty of trade speculation as the NFL’s Nov. 5 deadline approaches, and that could take its toll on a player.

However, Smith doesn’t seem to be focused on that.

“You know what, that’s not my decision. That’s all up there,” Smith said of Browns zone forward Scott Petrak. “I would rather you ask her what that would be.”

Two teams that have emerged as potential landing spots for Smith are the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers, especially since the Lions will be without star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson this season. He also spent time with the Packers between 2019 and 2021, so Green Bay would be a familiar destination.

“It’s a shame that an injury happened to (Hutchinson), a guy who was on his way to potentially being Defensive Player of the Year. This is a great loss for them,” Smith said. “But if I went to Detroit, I would like it because I get to play Green Bay twice a year and the Vikings twice a year. So, yeah, it’s going to be big.”

Smith specifically said he would like to join Detroit because of the playing time he would likely receive and because he would see two of his former teams in the NFC North again.

Of course, the Browns still have plenty of time to decide what to do with Smith. If they want, they can hold out until the deadline to spark a bidding war for his services. Or maybe they just want to make a quick decision like they did with Cooper.

Smith was quite productive through the first six games of 2024, recording 16 tackles and three sacks. Last year he totaled 27 tackles and five sacks.

The 32-year-old spent the first four years of his career with the Baltimore Ravens before moving to the Packers in 2019, where he made two Pro Bowls in three seasons.

He was then linked to Minnesota for a year before signing with Cleveland.
