The bride’s mother missed her daughter’s wedding because she took too long to prepare

A bride gets into an argument with her family after they say they arrived so late for her wedding that she had no choice but to get married without them.

In an anonymous post on Reddit, the bride explained that her wedding day “started like it always does.”

But while she was getting ready and putting the finishing touches on her dress, her mother went back to the hotel to change and pick up her grandmother and a family friend.

“The invitation says the ceremony starts at 2pm. As usual, we started a little late, but it wasn’t too bad. Next thing I know, I’m walking down the aisle with no mom, grandma or family friend in sight,” the bride wrote. “The ceremony continues and is over before we know it.”

About 45 minutes later, she added, “they finally arrived.”

“Then I go and tell them it’s over and they missed it,” she wrote. “My mom immediately reacted with hostility, blaming the bakery for not having any rolls ready. Then she said they were held up by a train, and my personal favorite was, ‘It’s your fault for not calling or texting to ask where we were. Again, the invitation said 2pm.'”

Now the bride claims her mother is suggesting she is the one in the wrong for “not performing my ceremony.”

The commenters on the post are overwhelmingly on the bride’s side.

“You started your wedding on time,” one wrote, adding, “No idea what poor planning led to her leaving and coming back but not making it and her reaction doesn’t sound like she really meant to. I don’t understand why you would delay the start of your wedding for ANYONE. Sounds like an important lesson she needed to learn.”

Another wrote that the bride should have asked her mother: “So mom, you know that My The wedding day was not YouRight?”

Others were more direct, writing, “Any reasonable adult should be aware that wedding venues and officiants will not wait 45 minutes for random guests to arrive.”

Another commenter asked why no one had tried to find the missing family members. “If she could get a text message, she could send a text message. It is not the bride or groom’s job to stay in touch with the family on the wedding day.”

“Still, it’s odd that no one – no other family member, no other wedding party member, no wedding planner, etc. – tried to find out where the bride’s mother was when she didn’t show up. Was it a tiny ceremony?”
