Cate Blanchett stars in Borderlands, an adaptation of a popular action-adventure video game.

The hectic pace of the dialogue is played down in the Borderland film, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any good lines. From classic characters like Lilith to lesser-known ones that won’t be revealed here, there are still some funny lines in this fast-paced action comedy.

This list contains spoilers!

6 “Who does that?”

Lilith

Lilith in the Borderlands movie

One of the film’s most memorable moments takes place in the bar where Lilith is introduced. She has just won a bounty and is drinking happily when some Atlas Corporation employees come by. They have a message from their leader, Deukalian Atlas, which Lilith is not more willing to ignore.

They warn her that Deukalian Atlas is a man who doesn’t like to be kept waiting. Lilith responded with that phrase, followed by a quick draw that would make any Wild West gunslinger blush. This version of Lilith is not to be trifled with, and no amount of banter will convince her otherwise. That is, until a hologram of Deukalian Atlas appears and gives her a substantial sum of money, which gets Lilith to cooperate.

5 “The bus is for exterminators.”

Marcus

Marcus runs his shop in the movie Borderlands

Marcus is a classic CHARACTER in the games in the truest sense of the word. He acted as narrator in the first Borderland and made many more appearances afterward. Although his role in the film is small, it is iconic.

If you’re waiting for Borderlands 4 or just want to freshen up your palate a bit, these games should be able to satisfy a similar hunger for loot.

Marcus takes Lilith with him when she reaches Pandora, thinking she is a Vault Hunter. No matter how many times Lilith says this, Marcus refers her to a commercial for Vault Hunters who want to be trained by Marcus’ company. He is unwilling to listen to this in order to make money, which fits with the money-hungry corporate theme of the film. Marcus is just another shop owner trying to get by in this wild galaxy.

4 “You accidentally shot me in the face again.”

Claptrap is perhaps the best portrayal of a character from the games. Jack Black plays a sarcastic robot who has no idea how to deal with human emotions. He finds Lilith on Pandora and swears to her that he was programmed to find her one day.

Lilith didn’t care and tried to shoot Claptrap multiple times. He is unfazed by this rejection and thinks Lilith accidentally shot him with that great line. Another great scene follows after that when she locks Claptrap up after stealing a vehicle and he still doesn’t understand that Lilith is intentionally being mean. As annoying as Claptrap units can be in the games and even the movie, they are the mascot of the franchise and it wouldn’t be the same without them.

3 “Electric shower!”

Tiny Tina And War

Little Tina with a rocket launcher in the movie Borderlands

It’s clear from the opening credits that this isn’t a cool future. People seem to be owned by corporations, and if they’re not part of a corporation like Atlas or Hyperion, they’re probably desolate wastelanders trying to make a few bucks through bounty hunting, raiding, or vault hunting.

That’s why it’s the little things in the future that can be fun, like getting to a place with an electric shower. At least Tiny Tina and Krieg are amazed when they simultaneously shout “Electric shower!” as they jump in together. Instead of water, electricity cleans people in the future, or at least that’s the kind of shower Dr. Tannis has. She even has a hand-operated version of an electric shower later on Borderland Film that seems to work just as well.

2 “I celebrate because you are alive.”

Claptrap has another great line later in the Borderlands movie when everyone thinks Lilith is a traitor. Tiny Tina tries to blow her up, but she survives the explosion. When Lilith returns to the group, Claptrap dances to celebrate her supposed death. When he sees that she is okay, Claptrap sings a different song as if he is happy to see Lilith.

There are some iconic Vault Hunters in the Borderlands series that deserve a comeback if a Borderlands 4 is in the works.

In the final act of the film, Claptrap finally realizes that Lilith is not a nice person and actively wishes her dead with little jokes. However, this key scene is where Lilith tries to make things right with everyone. She never actually apologizes to Claptrap, but no one ever seems to take any of these robots seriously.

1 “Wonderful meat fiesta!”

War

War in the Borderlands movie

War is a little different in the film than in the games. First introduced as a DLC game character in Borderlands 2Krieg had an eclectic background. He mostly spoke nonsense, but he had a sly inner voice that was more sophisticated. This dichotomy made the character entertaining to play in between all his tirades about meat.

In the film Borderlands, his love of meat is mentioned, with his last line being “Glorious Meat Festival.” This is in response to Roland asking Krieg if he would like to attend the festivities that follow. Whether or not there is meat at the celebration is irrelevant. That’s just how Krieg speaks, and fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
