The 49ers’ Deommodore Lenoir recovers a blocked kick for a 61-yard TD

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The San Francisco 49ers’ special teams have given up more than their share of points to their opponents this season. But just as the Arizona Cardinals were about to end Sunday’s game with a field goal, this unit offered some atonement for its past mistakes.

As the Niners clung to a three-point lead in the second quarter, Cardinals kicker Chad Ryland set up the game-winning field goal. Ryland’s kick was a little low when Niners defensive tackle Jordan Elliott raised his hand to block it. Cornerback Deommodore Lenoir grabbed the ball and raced 61 yards for the first touchdown of his career.

The extra point made the Niners score 20-10 with about five minutes left in the first half.

It was the Niners’ first blocked field goal return for a touchdown since Week 3 of 2009 against the Vikings.
