Tennessee Titan LB makes waves in his preseason debut

The Tennessee Titans are rebounding after their 17-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night at Nissan Stadium.

Because playing time had to be split between 90 players instead of 53, most players were unable to get much out of the game. But no one had more impact on the defensive side of the ball than linebacker Chance Campbell.

Campbell recorded nine tackles, one sack and one pass defense, which was the highest of the game, in the win. His performance was praised by coach Brian Callahan after the game.

“He made plays all night long,” Callahan said, via team reporter Jim Wyatt. “He hit the quarterback a couple of times. I think he sacked the quarterback once, if I’m not mistaken. But it was great to just see him liven up a little bit because we’re looking for guys to keep getting in the room to get more depth. Obviously, we lost Garret Wallow. So there are opportunities and he took advantage of them well.”

Campbell, 24, was selected by the Titans in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss. However, he was placed on the injured list early in his rookie season and did not make his debut until 2023. His first appearance came in Week 3 in garbage time of a big loss to the Cleveland Browns. He then played three more games before being released and re-signed to the practice squad. The Titans tried to bring him back, but he suffered an injury that placed him on the injured list for the second consecutive season.

Now that he’s healthy again and the Titans are in need of linebackers, performances like Campbell’s against the Niners are even more important. Campbell has a real chance to not only make the 53-man roster, but to carve out a decent role for himself.

Campbell and the Titans will host the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
