The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs concluded their two-game road trip with a 0-0 draw with UL-Lafayette at Home Bank Soccer & Track Complex on Sunday night after an impressive night that included eight saves from goalkeeper Sarah Melén.

In a defensive battle, Tech (0-0-2) had seven shots and ULL (1-0-1) had 20, with 10 shots hitting the target.

“I think we are looking for our identity as a team and just have to find a way to break through and score,” said head coach Steve Voltz.

Defender Dakato Merino and midfielder Taylor Cassidy were Tech’s best players with two shots each. Avery Kyle, Julia B.And Maeva Costenaro also took shots against ULL, but could not get the ball into the net for LA Tech.

Freshmen Annie Meador and Mary Helen Burford each played the full 90 minutes for Tech in the back row, while Olivia Ewing played 28 minutes.

“It was a courageous performance by our girls tonight. Three freshmen played in the back row while two played the full 90 minutes,” Voltz said.

Melén was outstanding in her debut for the Bulldogs, stopping eight shots on goal and making two saves from close range against ULL.

Tech will play its first home game on Thursday against South Alabama at Robert Mack Caruthers Field. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ and will begin at 7 p.m.
