TCU women’s soccer falls to No. 14 Notre Dame

The TCU women’s soccer team falls to No. 14 Notre Dame, 4-0, the team’s first loss of the 2024 season.

The Frogs showed their strength at the beginning of the first half and controlled possession.

TCU sophomore defender Bella Diorio made an early impression when she fired a header toward goal that deflected off Notre Dame goalkeeper Atlee Olofson.

Shortly thereafter, in the 14th minute, Notre Dame freshman Izzy Engle scored with a shot into the near corner to give the Irish the lead.

The lead doubled before halftime when freshman Lily Joseph’s shot deflected off a Horned Frog defender, giving the Irish a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Irish kept up the pressure early in the second half and Engle scored her second goal of the night in the 47th minute to extend Notre Dame’s lead.

Despite the deficit, the Frogs did not give up without a fight. TCU shot six times and had to save twice in the second half. However, Notre Dame sealed the victory with a penalty kick in the 84th minute, securing the final score of 4-0.

Although the Frogs managed 11 shots, their shooting accuracy of 27% was surpassed by the Irish, who boasted a shooting accuracy of 58%.

The Frogs will next face Central Michigan at home on Thursday, August 29. First contact is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game can be streamed on ESPN+.
