It is currently pouring with rain in Kansas City

It’s raining heavily in Kansas City right now.

What began as a light shower around 6:15 p.m. CT developed into heavy thunderstorms by 6:30 p.m. – less than an hour before the scheduled kickoff at 7:20 p.m. CT.

Lightning strikes were visible from the stadium, and seconds later loud claps of thunder were heard.

The press, which had originally crowded into a tunnel leading to the pitch, had to slowly retreat from the entrance as rain poured down from the side.

It was not immediately clear if the start of play would be delayed due to the weather. Warm-ups were halted and players have returned to their sidelines and dressing rooms to wait for the storm to pass.

Local NBC affiliate KSHB reports that after the storm passes, the chance of rain is low for the rest of the evening.
