Taylor Swift fans are having issues with tickets being canceled or put on hold

INDIANAPOLIS — Taylor Swift fans are gearing up for three enchanted nights in Indy, but Swifties across the city are now unsure if they’ll be able to see the pop star.

“I’ve been trying to get tickets to see Taylor Swift for two years,” Olivia Bonilla said.

Bonilla plans to come to Indy from California.

“I thought it would be really special to be able to go to one of the last US shows,” said Cecilia Cantineri.

Cantineri had tickets for the second of three evenings.

Both Swifties say their excitement wore off when problems arose with tickets earlier this month.

“They are currently missing from my account,” Bonilla said.

Bonilla says she bought her tickets from a seller in California. She met them in person and they gave her a proof of purchase. She says the problems with her account began after Oct. 4, when TicketMaster stopped ticket transfers less than 72 hours before shows in remaining Eras Tour cities.

Bonilla has been locked out of her account and her tickets have disappeared and reappeared several times. Now your account is empty.

“(They) just told me I had to wait and be patient and hear a response from the fraud department,” Bonilla said.

Cantineri originally bought tickets for the first night, but she needed another night and transferred them to someone else.

“I unknowingly exchanged for stolen tickets,” Cantineri said. “So now two people have two sets of tickets that are mine and I don’t have any tickets. That doesn’t make any sense to me.”

Cantineri says she is glad the person whose tickets were stolen have been returned, but is frustrated that nothing can be done for them.

“My choice is to buy $2,000 tickets or not go,” Cantineri said.

WRTV has reached out to TicketMaster regarding recently reported issues with tickets. A spokesperson sent the following statement:

Overall, our digital ticketing innovations have significantly reduced fraud compared to the days of paper tickets and duplicate PDFs. Using this digital history, we are also able to investigate the situation and restore fans’ tickets. The best way for fans to protect themselves is to set a strong, unique password for all accounts – especially their personal email addresses, where security issues often arise. Scammers are looking for new scammers in all industries, and tickets will always be a target because they are valuable. That’s why Ticketmaster is constantly investing in new security improvements to keep fans safe.

“If a cybercriminal can take control of them, they are essentially making very little effort and have the potential for a high reward,” said IU cybersecurity expert Isak Asare.

According to Asare, it is important that users have strong passwords, do not duplicate them and use multi-factor authentication to keep accounts like TicketMaster secure.

Regarding problems with TicketMaster, the BBB says:

It’s important to take proactive measures to protect your online accounts. Regularly updating your passwords with strong, unique passwords that are not reused across platforms serves as a critical first line of defense. It is also important to monitor whether your data has been involved in a data breach and, if so, take immediate action by updating your login details. If you use platforms like Ticketmaster, check your account regularly to ensure that no unauthorized ticket transfers have occurred. Reporting suspicious activity as quickly as possible can increase the chances of recovering your tickets and prevent further problems.
