Taser in use, 14-year-old Central Florida student arrested with pistol at school

A police officer used his Taser when a 14-year-old Central Florida student with a handgun resisted arrest at school.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Armwood High School student for bringing a weapon onto school grounds and resisting arrest.

On October 21, a HCSO School Resource Deputy received a tip from administration that 14-year-old Kwami Milton had brought a firearm onto campus.

When approached by the deputy, Milton refused to comply with orders to remove his backpack and attempted to flee down the hallway.

The deputy successfully arrested Milton after deploying a Taser.

A search of Milton’s book bag revealed a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun.

Kwami Milton is charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds and resisting an officer without violence.

“Bringing a weapon onto a school campus is not only illegal, but it endangers the lives of students and staff and will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “This incident could have had far more dangerous consequences. We are committed to ensuring our schools remain a safe environment for everyone.”

Milton was taken to the hospital for medical clearance before being transferred to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

According to local law enforcement, this is an active investigation.
