Tank Bigsby looks like Fred Taylor with his 19-yard touchdown run

After getting off to a terrible start to the 2024 season following four straight losses, the Jacksonville Jaguars tried to recapture their glory days by wearing their throwback jerseys with the giant jungle cat on the side. In the duel against the Indianapolis Colts, they were able to turn the clock back to Tom Coughlin’s time for a brief moment.

The big highlight play of the day may not have come from quarterback Trevor Lawrence, but from running back Tank Bigsby. In those “Prowler” jerseys, Bigsby put together a run that would have made Fred Taylor proud for the sheer brutality and fragmenting power he displayed.

After the Jaguars took the lead with a punt return at the Colts’ 18-yard line, Bigsby wasted no time trying to convert that excellent field position into points. Not only did Bigsby run for a touchdown that gave the Jaguars a 20-10 lead, but he also did so while carrying several Colts defenders and racing into the end zone.

Just a few plays later, after a Colts score, Bigsby found even more wiggle room, using a stiff arm and hard running to cut through the Colts for a 65-yard touchdown that gave Jacksonville a 34-20 lead.

One change the Jaguars appear to have made this year is to rely more on Bigsby and less on starter Travis Etienne. Etienne has just six carries for 17 yards (albeit with a handful of good receiving plays), while Bigsby has replaced him with 10 carries for 97 yards so far.

While this move could easily backfire for Doug Pederson and the Jags, as Bigsby has less speed and explosiveness in the open field than the slippery Etienne, the power Bigsby can bring makes his nickname quite fitting. On a rainy day in Jacksonville, a beleaguered Indianapolis defense felt his wrath.

While Bigsby will need a few more of these big plays to show the coaching staff that he’s a better running option under center than Etienne, a big play like this at a time when the team needs some kind of positive boost to wake them up The promotion could be a good way for him to earn the respect of Doug Pederson.
