Taking the plunge: Deschutes County SO wildlife technician jumps into retention pond to rescue trapped fawn

BEND, Oregon (KTVZ) – A Deschutes County animal control technician took a plunge into a retention pond over the weekend to rescue a trapped and tired fawn.

A concerned citizen called 911 around 5 p.m. on Saturday and reported that two fawns appeared to be stuck in a pond on a property on Deschutes Market Road.

When officers arrived, the caller reported that one of the fawns had managed to escape from the pond, but the other was struggling and panicking.

Officers arrived and attempted unsuccessfully to lead the trapped fawn out of the pond.

Animal control technician Treyton Plamondon arrived and distributed catch poles to try to catch the fawn and bring it to safety, but the fawn appeared to be exhausting itself while evading rescue attempts.

“Believing that the only way to save the fawn’s life was to jump into the water,” Plamondon jumped into the pond and rescued the fawn, which was later released at another location on the property, far from the pond.
