Sylvester Stallone wants to learn more about the Italian stallion’s backstory in a planned film. Rocky Prequel. The author and actor has just released a new update on the project and revealed that he is currently working on the script.

Stallone spoke the Rocky Prequel in an interview with the Inspire me Podcast. He is only a few pages in at this point, but has hinted at various plot points that a prequel could naturally explore. This means not only telling more about Rocky Balboa’s life before the events of the first one, but also, Rockybut also more about the other characters of the classic film, such as Burt Young’s Paulie and Talia Shire’s Adrian. Stallone even hinted that his idea is reminiscent of the acclaimed Disney film Lady and the Trampbut with human characters from Rocky instead of animated animals.

“The Rocky Prequel is very close to my heartsaid Stallone. “I wrote a few pages of it, and it seems to write itself. Seeing Adrienne at 15, Rocky at 17, Paulie moving to a new neighborhood, Rocky being the bad boy.” It’s almost like Lady and the Trampbut with real people. It will be wonderful.”

Stallone has commented on his plans for a return visit Rocky with a prequel series at various points in the past. In 2021, he shared on Instagram a picture of a handwritten treatment for the Rocky Prequel. The article included some more basic ideas for the series and mentioned that he would like to see the series run for multiple seasons to tell the complete story. It seems that Stallone still has a lot of heart for the project, although it’s hard to say if and when the prequel will come to fruition.

This may be the weirdest post yet. I started writing a treatment for a Rocky prequel to stream this morning. Stallone played the character of Rocky Balboa in six of his own feature films. He returned for two parts of the Believe film series before retiring from the role, resulting in his absence in the third film. The future of the franchise continues without him, as the fourth Believe Film is currently in production. Separately, a Creed 2 A spin-off series about the Drago family is also in preparation. There is currently no indication that Stallone will play the role of Rocky in the new Believe Sequel or Drago-centric series.
