Sydney Sweeney says she may never feel comfortable about money

Sydney Sweeney is on top of the world.

The 27-year-old movie star’s films grossed hundreds of millions of dollars last year and she has been hired as a spokesperson for numerous brands.

But despite the financial windfall her success has brought her—she recently bought and is renovating a mansion in Bel Air, and has been able to pay off her mother’s mortgage and buy her uncle his “dream boat”—Sweeney is clear about it fully aware Your fame and income could disappear with “one wrong step”.

In a recent profile in Glamor, the “Anyone But You” star said her experience growing up with no money influenced the way she handles her wealth.

“I come from a family where I saw my parents lose everything and I’m terrified of that,” she said. “This fear will always be instilled in me. I am a big saver. I don’t just spend money. But I don’t think I’ll ever feel comfortable.

Sweeney’s family moved from rural northern Idaho to Los Angeles when he was 13 to pursue acting. A decision she previously told The Hollywood Reporter put a lot of financial strain on the family and ultimately led to her parents’ divorce.

Although she’s now known for her love of cars, when she started driving in LA she was stuck with her “grandparents’ old Volvo.”

“I had to give him a jumpstart to get it started. While I was driving, the bottom case fell off,” she told Glamor. “Oil was leaking everywhere, so I always had cardboard to put under the car so it wouldn’t dirty anyone’s driveway.”

Although the days of driving a stick are long gone, Sweeney finds it difficult to come to terms with their success.

“It’s a strange feeling when people say, ‘Oh, you’re successful,’ or say, ‘You did it,'” Sweeney says. “It doesn’t feel like it because I have so much more I want to accomplish and achieve. I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of what I want to do in my life.”

And even though she will never feel comfortable financially, she is proud of how far she has come.

“I am a very successful, independent woman who has worked really hard,” she said. “I did everything myself and did the shopping and take care of myself and my family.”
