Sun Life and Beyond Sport join forces to support diabetes prevention

Sun Life and Beyond Sport’s Hoops+Health program has helped more than 14,000 children and communities in 2024.

Launched in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam in September 2023, the program promotes active, healthy lifestyles for children and communities across the region.

In addition, the programme focused on three key areas: improving access to physical activity through refurbished basketball courts that provide safe playgrounds in disadvantaged areas; engaging local communities, coaches and Sun Life staff by organising court opening events, volunteer days and educational workshops; and finally encouraging young people to be more active through free accessible basketball sessions.

David Broom, Chief Client and Distribution Officer at Sun Life Asia, said: “At Sun Life, we recognise the important role that sport plays in keeping young people active, healthy and engaged. Our Hoops+Health programme is all about creating spaces where everyone, from beginners to aspiring athletes, can access coaching and training. The results of the programme have been truly inspiring. We hope that these revitalised basketball courts will continue to be the beating heart of these local neighbourhoods as we make positive progress in fostering a healthier, more active generation in Asia.”

Fred Turner, Managing Director of Beyond Sport, added: “Not only is sport a fantastic way to stay active and healthy, it also teaches valuable life skills that extend beyond the playing field. However, the ability to reap these benefits depends on the availability of the right infrastructure and facilities for training. The joint Hoops+Health programme aims to strengthen local communities through sport and provide children and adults with safe and functional spaces for learning and development.”

“Sun Life and Beyond Sport partner on diabetes prevention” was originally created and published by Life Insurance International, a GlobalData brand.
