Subnautica 2 adds a new planet and co-op in 2025

Wet and Wild Ocean Exploration sequel Subnautica 2 was announced at Xbox Partner Preview and will launch on PC and Xbox Series X and S in 2025 via the Xbox Game Preview program. It will also be available on Game Pass from day one.

The new installment in the Subnautica series takes players to a new planet, complete with new environments, flora and fauna to discover. Also new to the series is a co-op mode for up to four players.

“Whether you bring experience from your previous adventures or are new to the Subnautica games, you will explore lush new environments, encounter fascinating creatures around every corner, and uncover the secrets at the core of this mysterious planet,” teased Donya Abrams, Community Manager from Unknown World, in one Xbox Wire post.

“But as familiar as things may seem at first glance to experienced players, Subnautica 2 offers new and unique experiences that will keep you on your toes.”

Last month the developer Unknown Worlds responded to fans’ concerns The latest installment promised “no season passes, no battle passes, no subscription,” making cooperative play entirely optional and posing no threat to the single-player experience.

The final game in the series, Subnautica: Below Zero, was released in 2021 and scored an impressive nine out of ten in its review IGN review.
