Students fight for tickets to the Rocky Mountain Showdown – The Rocky Mountain Collegian

Student tickets for the upcoming Colorado State University sports season went on sale on August 14. When tickets for football and volleyball became available, students were excited to get their tickets for the home games.

Despite having numerous home games to look forward to, students had one game in mind: the Rocky Mountain Showdown. After CU Boulder hosted the game last year, CSU students are excited to show their Ram pride at Canvas Stadium for the biggest football game of the season. But with only 2,000 student tickets allocated for each grade level, every student went to great lengths to get a ticket to the big game.

In an incident similar to the disastrous Ticketmaster incident surrounding Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, students had to fight a tremendous battle for their tickets.

“I skipped class to get tickets.” -Ty Tend, sophomore at CSU

“When I first came in, the website told me I was 10,000th in line,” said Curt Erback, a junior at CSU. “I stared at the screen for hours. I didn’t even take a break to go to the bathroom.”

Many students were disappointed when the CSU athletic website told them the game was completely sold out. The first wave of tickets for the Rocky Mountain Showdown sold out faster than any other CSU game in history.

When it was announced that 2,000 more tickets would be given out to the student body, students were more prepared for the second round. They don’t want to be one of the students who miss out on showing the Buffs that they are “proud to be a CSU Ram.”

“I had two computers and my phone ready to go as soon as the clock struck 10,” said Dee Fence, a senior at CSU. “And it was worth it because I’m going to the game, baby.”

Students went to great lengths to get tickets the second time around, with many students even admitting to planning their days around the ticket sales.

“I skipped my classes to get tickets,” said Madeleine Backer, a sophomore at CSU. “Not that I was going anyway, but I feel like that’s a commitment.”

For those unlucky students who didn’t get tickets, there may still be a chance to get a resale ticket at a fair price. An underground ticket market is holding an auction for 50 tickets to Rocky Mountain Showdown on September 10th.

“Tickets will go to the 50 highest bidders,” said Ty Tend, the auction host. “This is a great opportunity, and all proceeds will go toward a new pool table for our fraternity house.”

Anyone still looking to grab tickets to the game can try their luck at the underground auction. This game will go down in the record books and no one wants to miss it. Even if you don’t have a ticket to the game, be sure to stop by the Ram Walk Tailgate before the game. Every Ram needs to come and show the Buffs who will win the game of the season.
