Stolen tanker in Vancouver overturns and crashes into house

VANCOUVER, Washington (KPTV) – A stolen water tank tipped over and crashed into a fence and garage in Vancouver early Wednesday morning.

At around 2 a.m., a small water tanker truck was stolen from a Star Rentals parking lot in Vancouver.

At 5:30 a.m., the same truck crashed, the tanker overturned and the cab crashed into a neighbor’s fence and garage.

Residents near Northeast 138th Avenue and 32nd Circle in Vancouver said they immediately took action but did not want to let the situation escalate further, so the person responsible escaped.

“I followed the guy for a while as he tried to flee the scene,” said Eugene Cushing, who lives nearby. “When you get into a situation like this, you’re asking for trouble. It’s happened to us three times since we’ve lived here. And each time it was a driver in a stolen vehicle. I honestly believe it’s a law enforcement issue.”

Neighbors said they were grateful that no injuries were reported, but hoped more could be done to prevent something like this from happening again at that roundabout in the future.

“I see a truck with a Star Rentals water tank on it, and it’s going really fast, and I hear this crash,” said Robert Patson, who lives nearby. “Thank God no one was hurt.”

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
