Steelers vs. Giants score, live updates: Russell Wilson makes Pittsburgh’s second start on ‘Monday Night Football’

There’s a reason why Mike Tomlin is currently the longest-tenured coach in the NFL. After all, who would make a quarterback change on a 4-2 team that is firmly in the playoffs and the division title hunt? But Pittsburgh, now quarterbacked by Russell Wilson, appears to be an even bigger threat in the AFC after its offensive performance in last week’s 37-15 win over the Jets.

Wilson proved to be an improvement over Justin Fields in the Steelers’ passing game with the ability to push the ball downfield. The resulting deep shots opened up more options for the Steelers in the intermediate passing game and led to running routes for Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, who combined to rush for nearly 150 yards.

Visiting Pittsburgh on “Monday Night Football” (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN, ABC and streaming on ESPN+) are the 2-5 New York Giants, who have a top-10 pass defense (sixth in the NFL, 179.4 YPG) and have the most sacks in the league with 31. However, New York’s offense wasn’t as productive, ranking 29th in yards per game, prompting head coach Brian Daboll to say this week that the team is sticking with Daniel Jones at quarterback. Jones ranks near the bottom of the league in passer rating (80.6) among qualified starters with at least five starts.

Steelers lose a timeout for challenging a call that had already been reviewed.

  • George Pickens’ apparent TD catch was ruled incomplete

Russell Wilson hits George Pickens on a flag route in the back of the end zone for an apparent touchdown. But he’s out of bounds after being hit by Deonte Banks. His left foot never lands in the field.

However, the Steelers challenge the call.

  • The Giants’ TD was eliminated by a penalty

The Steelers get a four-yard run and a nine-yard reception from Jaylen Warren, but have to settle for a field goal from Chris Boswell. A promising trip ultimately fizzles out.

    Steelers 3, Giants 0

  • The Steelers’ TD was eliminated by a penalty

The Steelers scored on an 11-yard TD pass from Russell Wilson to George Pickens. But a facemask penalty against Broderick Jones negates the touchdown.

  • Dexter Lawrence’s shoe comes off

Dexter Lawrence briefly left the field, but that was because his left shoe came off. No injury, Giants fans.
