Springfield community remembers Sam Hamra during funeral and procession

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri (KY3) – Family, friends and community members gathered Saturday to say goodbye to Springfield innovator Sam Hamra.

Hamra died on August 2 at the age of 92.

The longtime Springfield businessman and attorney was buried following a service at Second Baptist Church on E. Battlefield Road.

“His legacy will be multifaceted because it can be seen through the lens of a great company that impacted the lives of thousands of people, or through the lens of the incredible family that sits around him today to honor him. I say it’s all of that. He loved the people in our company and had close relationships with many employees over the years. Including the people who surrounded him and supported his work throughout his life, and those who cared for him until his death and continue to do so today,” said Mike Hamra, Sam’s son.

After the service, a procession drove to a Wendy’s restaurant on East Sunshine Street.

Hamra’s company, Hamra Enterprises, owns and operates 156 restaurants and various real estate projects in Missouri and across the country. Many of these restaurants are Wedny’s locations in Missouri.
