Sportsbooks will no longer offer NBA props following the Porter scandal

FanDuel and DraftKings are among the sportsbooks that do not offer under-bets on NBA players on two-way or 10-day contracts to combat attempts at manipulation.

The restriction is the result of discussions the NBA had with sportsbooks over the summer after former Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter was expelled from the league for his role in a gambling scheme that involved prop betting on his stats was banished.

Sources told ESPN that the NBA is sending a memo to all sportsbooks on the issue on Friday.

FanDuel and DraftKings were among the sportsbooks that said they would comply with the NBA’s request.

“We are pleased that these actions have been taken to protect the integrity of our games,” an NBA spokesperson told ESPN.

FanDuel told ESPN that it “always works with our partners to ensure available markets meet their standards.” A DraftKings spokesperson said the sportsbook is “aligned with the NBA and grateful for the opportunity to engage with them.” to share the topic with them.”

Sportsbooks reported suspicious betting patterns at Porter’s games in January and March. Porter was eliminated after just a few minutes of play in a January 26 game against the LA Clippers and a March 20 game against the Sacramento Kings.

Porter pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud on July 10 and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 18 in New York.
