Speaking on the radio, Jerry Jones made it clear that these Dallas Cowboys are not doing well

Jerry Jones was on the right track Tuesday morning.

The Cowboys owner and general manager joked with the morning crew of 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM) about their row the previous week and host RJ Choppy missing this week’s show due to an excused absence – “Did he want to avoid the confrontation?” – Settle the Derrick Henry question.

Jones also said something else that you’ll agree with: his football team isn’t doing well.

In reality, that’s what we need to talk about.

Jones said the offensive concepts and designs may need some fine-tuning, and he didn’t dismiss Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman’s poor assessment of the wide receivers.

Jones also did not use the 49ers’ health problems as an opportunity for his Cowboys team to win on Sunday evening in San Francisco.

On Tuesday, Jones spoke truths about his football team.

“In our situation, to be honest, it’s more about maintaining your own blocks, it’s more about not making mistakes,” he said. “In my opinion, it’s more about the receivers getting through difficult man-to-man coverage and getting away from it, if you will. The kind of thing we should all be focusing on is whether we’re designing bad plays or designing bad concepts. The fact is that there is some of that, but there is also some execution. There is some talent. I like our talent. I really like our talent. I like our young talent, but with young talent comes a few more mistakes than when you’re dealing with an experienced player, even though you have to have young talent.”

You may not agree with Jones when he says Henry wouldn’t fit into the Cowboys’ salary cap, but please don’t ignore what he says about the running back’s expected results on the football field.

Henry wouldn’t fit into the West Coast offense. At least as Mike McCarthy calls it.

This is nothing against the Cowboys head coach, but history shows he has never had a running back like Henry.

Who has that, right?

“In my opinion, we’re not playing very good football at all right now and it’s questionable whether we have Derrick Henry or not,” Jones said. “Derrick Henry is having a career year. I don’t know if he would have that career year in our situation.”

So, yes, Henry could lead the NFL in rushing, but it doesn’t seem realistic that he would have the same numbers as a member of the Cowboys. It’s nice to dream about it. However, it’s just time for everyone to move on here, and that’s where the Cowboys owner is right.

During the bye week, McCarthy said there was a review of how the Cowboys operate. This is something he always does. He’s good at making sure the Cowboys correct their mistakes. He protects his players in the media when necessary. He is everything a player wants in a head coach.

McCarthy disagreed with Aikman’s description of his receivers as terrible route runners and laziness away from the line of scrimmage.

Theoretically, everyone can play better.

That was Jones’ point. Over the next 11 weeks of this season, the Cowboys must handle their business or more truth-telling will come to light.
