South Florida volleyball travels south for the in-state matchup

TAMPA, Fla., October 19, 2024 – The University of South Florida volleyball team (11-7, 7-0 AAC) will travel to the road for a game against the Florida Atlantic Owls (11-8, 3-4 AAC) on Sunday afternoon.

LAST TIME

On Wednesday, South Florida hosted Rice for a midweek showdown of the last two undefeated teams in the American Championship. The Bulls prevailed with a clean sweep over the Owls. The Bulls are now 7-0 in conference action.

The last time the Bulls started 7-0 in conference play was in 2002. South Florida started 12-0 in Conference USA. The Bulls won the conference tournament that season and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Jolene Shepardson was a senior on this historic squad.

Maria Clara Andrade is currently on a 12-game streak with double-digit kills. She extended her winning streak to 12 in the first set against Rice. Andrade has recorded more than 20 kills in three of the last twelve games. Her 24 kills against Tulsa were four shy of her career high of 28. Andrade is five kills away from reaching 1,000 in her career.

South Florida ranks in the top 50 nationally in assists and kills per set. With 12.89 assists per set, the Bulls rank 22nd nationally and first in the conference. The Bulls average 13.67 kills per set, ranking 26th in the country and first in the conference.

Caroline Dykes is averaging 10.85 assists per set, ranking 11th nationally. Her total of 716 assists ranks 15thTh in the nation.

Shepardson was named head coach on January 8, 2020 and led the Bulls’ program to its final conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance as a student-athlete in 2002. Earning the AAC When South Florida won the East Division title in 2023, it made a postseason appearance in the NIVC, winning three games and advancing to the Fab Four, marking the longest postseason run in program history. South Florida Volleyball has appeared in the NCAA Tournament seven times and won 12 conference titles since its founding in 1972. The Bulls play at The Corral (1,000), located next to the Yuengling Center on the USF campus.
