South Carolina starting QB injured

Clemson’s in-state rival is struggling with an injury to its starting signal-caller.

South Carolina’s starting quarterback suffered an injury in Saturday’s game against No. 16 LSU.

Gamecocks starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers left the game just before halftime with an ankle injury. He limped to the locker room after being sacked in the final seconds of the half.

Sellers, who ran for two touchdowns, sat on the bench at the start of the second half due to his injury.

South Carolina began the second half with senior Robby Ashford at quarterback, then Sellers came back for the Gamecocks’ second series before Ashford took the field again on subsequent possessions.

ABC’s Holly Rowe reported before the start of the second half that Sellers’ ankle was heavily taped and he was limping. Rowe said Sellers would “try to play” but the Gamecocks “just aren’t sure how much he can do.”

Clemson and South Carolina will meet for the 121st time in their arch-rivalry on Nov. 30 in Death Valley. Clemson has an overall record of 73-43-4 against South Carolina and has won eight of the last nine games in the series, including last year’s 16-7 victory in Columbia.
