Bad news for anyone who was dying to see Chris Hemsworth rip off a sheer tank top or iron out his emotional issues with the members of the Wrestling Boot Band: Todd Phillips’ previously announced Hulk Hogan biopic is officially no longer in the works. After five years of “probably still in the works!” optimism, the joker The director threw the film into the void earlier this week in a much longer interview about the production of his new musical “We Don’t Call It a Musical.” Joker: Foil for Two.

“I love what we tried to do,” Phillips said of the film, which was originally discussed in 2019, around the time the first joker became an improbably big box office hit. But in the years that followed, the project seemed stubbornly to refuse to solidify, with first Netflix appearing to back out and then Hemsworth clarifying that he never officially signed on to the project. Phillips himself did not elaborate on the project in his recent comments, saying only, “It’s not going to work out for me.” That’s crazy considering how much weight Phillips carried in Hollywood immediately after joker came out, but apparently the box office is not strong enough to mount an official biopic about a controversial figure like Hogan.

Naturally, someonewill play the guy in a Hollywood movie at some point; just a few weeks ago there were rumors that Ben Affleck might give him a role that we are sure will be very nuanced portrayal of the professional wrestler who became a professional plaintiff in the Kill Gawkers film that he and Matt Damon are reportedly circling right now. Hogan remains a larger-than-life character, even if that has mostly been with the caveat “in a bad way” for the past two decades; there’s room for someone to make an interesting film performance out of it, even if it won’t be Hemsworth.
