Snoop Dogg on whether he would watch the Chiefs-Steelers game with Taylor Swift

The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the NFL’s most iconic franchises with a fan base second to none – including a rap legend.

Yes, Snoop Dogg is a big fan of the team that, along with the New England Patriots, owns the most Super Bowl titles in NFL history with six.

Snoop is, of course, from Southern California. So how exactly did he end up rooting for a team from Western Pennsylvania?

“Well, in the ’70s you had to understand that there were only so many teams that really dominated, and the Steelers were one of those teams that represented what I felt like,” he said on TODAY’s “Sunday Night.” “October 6th Football” game between the Steelers and Dallas Cowboys at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh for a segment that aired on October 7th.

“And it just felt like a team that I could get behind, and I never stopped loving them.”

When it comes to musicians supporting NFL teams, no one is under more scrutiny right now than Taylor Swift, who makes headlines whenever she watches her boyfriend Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs play. The Chiefs and Steelers meet on Christmas Day in Pittsburgh. Will Snoop invite the “Blank Space” singer to watch the game with him?

“No, that’s not happening,” he said.

“When it comes to a Steelers game, it’s us or no one,” he added. “We’re not on anyone else’s side.”

Snoop adores the Steelers the way fans adored Snoop after he landed a commentating gig at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where he also doubled as a superfan after carrying the torch.

“The highlight of Paris was probably the torch. To be able to represent peace in that moment meant the world to me,” he said.

Snoop, who was last on the Steelers’ home field during a game in September 2009, got in the mood for game day by visiting the team store.

“I want business to continue to boom here!” he said.

“I just went in and looked and suddenly it looked good. Once I knew it was with the Steelers, I really had a lot of fun,” he added jokingly.

When he wasn’t shopping, Snoop made the most of his time by taking selfies with fans before leading the pre-game “Terrible Towel Twirl,” a tradition in which a special guest leads the crowd in doing the iconic Fans’ towel twirls wave in games. Snoop was honored to be a part of this tradition.

“It symbolizes unity. It symbolizes what we are all about – the Steel City. It’s been a part of our culture for as long as we’ve been doing this,” he said.

Snoop led the way, but he couldn’t lead the Steelers to victory as the Cowboys rallied and won 20-17, moving every team to 3-2 on the season.
