Singapore KrisFlyer Global Redemption Sale: 25% off award flights – is it worth it?

Singapore Airlines’ Global Redemption Sale is back, allowing members to book award flights with 25% fewer KrisFlyer miles. While North American transatlantic routes are limited to Premium Economy flights at select airports, this offer might pique your interest if you’re already looking to book your next vacation for 2025 – or are in Asia, Africa, the Southwest Pacific or Europe and want to add an extra leg to your trip.

Additionally, you don’t need to collect Singapore KrisFlyer miles to benefit from this offer; you can transfer them from several popular credit card reward currencies.

Here are all the details.

As mentioned, only Premium Economy seats are available in this promotion if you want to fly from the US to Singapore. According to the offer, you can fly from Singapore to San Francisco (or vice versa) for 56,250 KrisFlyer miles. Note that there are blackout dates for these routes. You can also snag Premium Economy tickets from Singapore to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York for 60,375 miles or from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Singapore for 60,375 miles. There are no blackout dates for these routes.

Please note that the required number of KrisFlyer miles is per person per route and availability is on a first come, first served basis.

In addition to travel from North America, you can visit Singapore KrisFlyer’s promotion details page for the full list of available routes, which include 25% off select Economy and Business class Saver award tickets on flights from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Southwest Pacific.

There are some important details to note:

  • Book by September 22, 2024 and travel between January 15 and May 29, 2025. (Some routes have blackout dates.)
  • The sale is valid for all Singapore Airlines destinations in Economy Class and selected destinations in Premium Economy and Business Class.
  • You must redeem via the Singapore Airlines website or app. No promo code or registration is required. The sale price will be displayed automatically when you search for eligible flights.

You’ll need to act fast to take advantage of this deal. The booking window ends on September 22, but the travel window gives you several months to fly in early 2025.

Since there aren’t many options from North American airports, this deal may not be particularly beneficial for you. Additionally, if you’re looking to travel to Singapore, you can find a business class deal through Star Alliance partner Air Canada Aeroplan and book your flight for just 60,000 Aeroplan points each way, which is cheaper than booking a premium economy ticket from EWR to Singapore.

In addition, Singapore Airlines regularly offers award redemption offers called Spontaneous Escapes, but these typically offer a shorter travel window in the near future (hence the “spontaneous” part). For example, in August you could get 30% off Saver award tickets, but you had fly in the month of September.

If your itinerary is flexible, you could benefit from this as you could also have opted to fly Singapore Airlines Business Class between New York and Frankfurt for just 56,700 miles or 36,400 miles in Premium Economy (as per Singapore’s August 2024 offer).

The current Global Redemption Sale, however, offers travelers a little more flexibility. But unlike Spontaneous Escapes, this sale doesn’t come around every month or so. We haven’t seen a similar offer from KrisFlyer in about a year.

Even if you don’t have a stash of KrisFlyer miles, you can still take advantage of this offer, especially if you’re looking to book short-haul flights within Asia in economy class. KrisFlyer is a transfer partner of four major transferable point currencies: Amex Membership Rewards, Capital One miles, Chase Ultimate Rewards and Citi ThankYou Rewards. You can convert any of these rewards into KrisFlyer miles at a 1:1 ratio.

If you’re planning a trip to Asia this winter or spring, this sale could be a great way to take advantage of your credit card rewards.

Conclusion

KrisFlyer’s Global Redemption Sale in Singapore is an unusual offer that lets you save 25% when redeeming KrisFlyer miles. The wide travel window offers more flexibility than most KrisFlyer offers, but you only have until September 22 to book, so consider whether this deal is for you.
