Significant cuts are underway at iHeartMedia – RadioInsight

iHeartMedia iHeart iHeartCommunicationsIn what could be the largest round of layoffs since January 2020, massive cuts are taking place at iHeartMedia today.

The cuts affect major names at all levels of the company as the company begins to introduce a new operating structure following recent corporate restructuring. iHeart has moved to more regionalized operations at the market management level, which we’ve learned is also impacting its promotions and sales teams. Most of the stations’ daily programs are taken over by the national program teams.

We’ve already heard from many major names affected by the cuts, but will only be publishing those who have gone public with their exits:

Boston

The Rich Shertenlieb Show is leaving Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX after less than six months.

Cleveland

Bill Squire departs as co-host of The Alan Cox Show on Hot Talk/Rock 100.7 WMMS. Squire, a stand-up comedian, has been with the station since 2013.

Dayton

Marty Bannister is the afternoon host on “Fox Sports 980“WON.

Des Moines

Ross Peterson is leaving as morning co-host of Sports 1460 KXNO/106.3 KXNO-FM after 20 years with the station.

Houston

Karah Leigh leaves rock/alternative94.5 The Buzz“KTBZ-FM after nineteen years of hosting evenings. Leigh also followed middays on Rock 102.7 WEBN Cincinnati, weekends on WEND Charlotte, KIOZ San Diego, WXTB Tampa and iHeart’s national rock and alternative feeds. Milwaukee

John Kuhn leaves as host of “Nine 2 p.m“on the subject of sport”97.3 The game“ WRNW-FM and its statewide sports network. The former Green Bay Packers fullback joined the station in April 2020.

Philadelphia

Mike Kaplan leaves as program director of “Old 104.5“WRFF after just fourteen months. Kaplan had also recently taken on these tasks at CHR.Q102“ WIOQ. Kaplan is best known for his stints as SVP/Alternative Programming for Audacy from 2018-22 and PD of iHeart.Old 98.7KYSR Los Angeles from 2013-17 as well as time programming of KRBZ Kansas City, WEZB/WKBU New Orleans and KNDD Seattle.

Raleigh

Nick Jordan is leaving as APD/afternoon host on Country.B93.9“WNCB. Jordan joined WNCB in July 2022 after working at CHRs WDJQ Canton OH and KNDE College Station TX and Country WQMX Akron OH. Jordan tells RadioInsight: “I enjoyed chatting to the Triangle on the way home from work every day, and I will miss the listeners who made my job so entertaining.” Layoffs are unfortunately part of business, but it occurs. Michael Burger is retiring as Raleigh Market President. He joined the Raleigh cluster in August 2021 as Senior VP of Sales before being promoted in August 2022. He previously held positions for iHeart St. Louis from 2016 to 2021, including general sales manager and VP/Sales, and worked as an account executive for KTVI-TV and CBS Radio St. Louis.

Salt Lake City

Eric ‘E. White’ exits in the morning at CHR 97.1 KZHT. He had spent his entire career with the company, starting as an intern in Philadelphia in 2017 before moving to KKDM Des Moines as MD/afternoon anchor and then working nights at KDWB Minneapolis for more than three years before moving to KZHT in July 2023 came. White said: “I love Das. I believe in this medium. I will continue to fight to make this business better, regardless of where I work. Tampa

John Mamola is retiring as program director for News/Talk 970 WFLA and Sports 1250/95.3 WDAE. Mamola has programmed WDAE since 2011 and WFLA since 2020, having previously held positions at CBS Radio Chicago and its Chicago Bears Radio Network.

Jay Recher and Zac Blobner host “Jay & Z” from noon to 3 p.m. on WDAE. Recher has been with the station since 2014 and was also deputy program director there. Blobner joined the station as a producer in 2017 after working at 930 WFXJ Jacksonville for three years. The duo has hosted the early afternoon show since 2021. Also the exit from WDAE is

Washington D.C

Paul Jaxon leaves Classic Rock morning hostBig 100“WBIG-FM and midday host at”Old 104.5“WRFF Philly. Jaxon joined WBIG-FM in September 2023 after working afternoons at WMMR Philadelphia for 18 years from 2004 to 2022. During his career, he has also been a morning guest on WFNX Boston, KBPI Denver and KURR Salt Lake City and evenings on WHJY Providence.

Additionally, WBIG-FM is leaving midday anchor Lisa Berigan. Berigan has been with the station since 2005, having previously spent time at stations such as WTMX Chicago and WPLY Philadelphia. She also hosts the syndicated “Live In Concert.”
