Vice President Kamala Harris brings her presidential campaign to the nation’s capital on Tuesday as she delivers her final speech to American voters.

With just a week to go before Election Day, the vice president and Democratic presidential nominee will urge Americans to “turn the page” on former President Trump, the Republican nominee.

And a senior Harris campaign adviser also said that the vice president, in a speech touted as optimistic and hopeful, would promise to always put country and unity above party to achieve results for all Americans.

According to her campaign, Harris wants to argue that Trump – who four years later continues to claim that his 2020 election loss to President Biden was due to an election rigged with massive voter fraud – is completely consumed by his grievances and his desire for retaliation does not meet the needs of Americans.

It’s an argument that the vice president has highlighted in recent days.

“He’s focused on his grievances and is actually fixated on that, on himself and on the division of our country, and that is in no way something that is going to strengthen the American family, the American worker,” Harris told reporters on Monday .

And at a large rally in suburban Atlanta, Georgia, last Thursday, the vice president urged supporters to “imagine the Oval Office in three months, or me – working for you, checking off my to-do list.” .”

The Vice President is expected to elaborate on this contrast in her speech.

Trump, who has been impeached multiple times and made history as the first sitting or former president to be convicted in a criminal case, has regularly threatened during the 2024 campaign that he would prosecute his political opponents if he returned to the White House.

And both Biden and Harris – who replaced their boss at the top of the 2024 Democratic ticket in July after Biden ended his re-election bid – have repeatedly warned voters that Trump poses a threat to democracy if he is re-elected.

“Our democracy is at stake,” the president said last week. “Think about it. Think about what would happen if Donald Trump won this election.”

Harris will deliver her address at the Ellipse, a large park south of the White House and north of the National Mall.

The Harris campaign points to two symbolic reasons for the Ellipse as the location for the vice president’s address.

The backdrop is initially the White House, where either Harris or Trump will soon replace Biden in the Oval Office.

And second, on January 6, 2021, Trump led a large rally of supporters at the Ellipse. Many of those who attended Trump’s rally then marched on the US capital and joined other protesters in storming the building to overturn Congress’ certification of Biden’s 2020 election victory over Trump.

The Harris campaign says the vice president will also use her address to highlight her plans and priorities for the country’s future. And they say that at the top of that list are concrete details about how it will cut costs and put more money in the pockets of average Americans.

Trump delivered his closing remarks at a massive rally Sunday at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where the former president’s message was partially overshadowed by controversial comments from speakers during the pre-show that made national headlines.

Harris’ address comes at a time when recent national polls suggest there is a margin of error race between her and Trump. The same goes for recent polls in the seven key battleground states, whose razor-thin results decided Biden’s victory over Trump in 2020 and will likely decide whether Harris or Trump wins the 2024 election.
