Deebo Samuel’s fantasy managers find themselves in a tough spot on Sunday as the wide receiver recovers from an illness and wrist injury the same week the San Francisco 49ers play on Sunday Night Football.

The late start makes it incredibly difficult to adjust if Samuel is unable to play against the Dallas Cowboys. For this reason, managers want to make sure they can count on Samuel before adding him to their lineup.

There’s good news on that front, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Samuel is expected to play.

The early update is the best-case scenario, as a game-time decision would almost certainly have resulted in many managers benching Samuel. Since Samuel’s play is optimistic, I think managers can confidently add him to their lineups and expect a reasonably good performance.

The 49ers have already lost Brandon Aiyuk and Juan Jennings in this game – not to mention Christian McCaffrey is still out – so they could use all the help they can get at wide receiver. And with George Kittle also injured but expected to play, Samuel isn’t playing as a decoy. He will be an important playmaker for Brock Purdy.
