For the first time in his legendary career, Shohei Ohtani will play in the World Series.

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Mets 10-5 on Sunday in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series and finished the game 4-2. Ohtani, the likely NL MVP, went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, helping propel the Dodgers back to victory for the first time since winning the title in 2020 and for the 22nd time in franchise history World Series lead, the most in NL history.

Los Angeles faces the New York Yankees in a premier World Series matchup pitting the teams with the best records in the AL and NL this season. It will be the 12th time these two storied franchises will face each other in the World Series. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday evening.

Shortstop Tommy Edman also had a big night for the Dodgers, going 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in the third inning, four RBIs and two runs scored. Catcher Will Smith also hit a two-run home run in the third to open the game.

Fans on social media rejoiced at the Dodgers’ commanding win that clinched the NLCS and advanced them to the World Series:

The loss caps a special season for the Mets, in which they overcame a slow start and made an unlikely trip to the NLCS. New York has some rising stars that offer hope for a bright future.

But the night belonged to the Dodgers, and fans will be excited as anticipation builds for their matchup against the Yankees later this week.
