Shogun’s Anna Sawai Surprises at the 2024 Emmys: What You Should Know About Her

Anna-Lena Schröder brought elegance to the red carpet of the 2024 Emmys.

Sawai, 32, arrived at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15. Shogun Star was stunning in a custom strapless red floor-length gown by Vera Wang. The dress featured a peplum skirt. She accessorized the look with Cartier jewelry.

During the event, Sawai told E! that Vera Wang was the first designer who came to mind to create her Emmy look. Sawai was thrilled that 75-year-old Wang ultimately agreed.

“It is very emotional,” said Sawai at the Live from the Red Carpet about how much this evening means to her. “The fact that you mention how emotional it is makes me even more emotional.”

Television’s biggest night always delivers stunning fashion. The aspiring actress is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as translator Toda Mariko in the historical drama. Sawai is against Jennifer Aniston, Carrie Coon, Maya Erskine, Imelda Staunton And Reese Witherspoon.

After learning of her nomination, Sawai admitted that she did not expect to be nominated for the award given the number of other talented actresses in the running.

“When they announced three people before me, I just thought, ‘Oh my God, that’s not going to happen,'” she said during an August episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers“And as I’m thinking about it, my manager calls and I miss my name.”

This is Sawai’s first Emmy nomination of her career, and if she wins, she will be the first Japanese actress to take home the award.

Before she took on her role in ShogunSawai made a name for herself in her native Japan as one of the lead singers of the girl group Faky, which performed from 2013 to 2018. She then decided to pursue acting and joined the Fast & Furious Franchise for F9 in 2021. The following year, she joined the cast of the Apple TV series Pachinkowhich premiered in 2022.

In addition to the award for Sawai, Shōgun is up for 25 other awards, including the most prestigious award of the evening for the most outstanding drama series. The FX series competes against The Crown, Stand out, The Gilded Age, The morning show, Mr and Mrs Smith, Slow horses And 3 Body problem.

This year, Shogun made history as it was the first Japanese-language series to be nominated for the Outstanding Drama Series award. It is the second non-English-language series to be nominated for the award. Netflix’ Squid Gamewhich is of Korean origin, was the first.

The red carpet has been rolled out for the 76th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Sawai added that she was “very happy for the team” after learning that Shōgun had reached an important milestone.

“Everyone has worked so hard, and I’m sure everyone works hard for every show,” she told Meyers. “But I’m just really proud and happy.”

Earlier this month it was proven that the Shogun The team’s hard work paid off. At the Creative Arts Emmys held on September 8, Shōgun took home 14 awards, including Best Casting in a Drama Series, Best Period Costumes in a Series, Best Editing in a Drama Series, and more.
