Is it too much to ask that a woman with a small baby fly to another country without her husband to attend a family wedding?

I am convinced that this is so!

But you know how people can be when it comes to their wedding: they lose their minds!

Check out this story on Reddit’s “Am I the *******?” page and consider whether you think this woman did something wrong.

“My cousin is getting married at the end of August at a vineyard in California.

No one in the family is in California, so I have to find a hotel. My mom, brother and I found an AirBNB that’s relatively close.

I should also mention that my husband is stationed overseas and will not be coming with me; I was planning to fly to the US for this.

The invitation only came three weeks ago and we had to hurry to find a place.

There is a problem…

The problem now is that I have a four-month-old baby who won’t take a bottle.

One time she had to drink from an open cup because I had to take a driving test, and she has never been separated from me for so long.

They just told us that children under 12 were not allowed, so I told them that I couldn’t come for logistical reasons.

Here is an idea…

They suggested that my mom and I keep driving to the AirBNB to watch the baby, and I said that was just too much to ask.

Fly all the way there, pay for an AirBNB, and then travel back and forth during the wedding.

It just doesn’t seem worth it to me because it’s a lot of work to do all this alone with a small baby.

The Airbnb and the flight are still refundable at this time.

Get over it!

My cousin is mad that I’m cancelling since they paid per person and can’t reduce the amount at this time. I said they could try inviting someone else.

I said it was his fault that they didn’t write the kids’ rule on the invitation.

He told me not to be cheap and to get a babysitter. I don’t know anyone in this area of California and honestly, paying for a babysitter on top of an AirBNB and a flight is ridiculous for me.

He says it is customary not to bring children to weddings…

So it’s not a problem if I cancel shortly before the appointment because I can’t bring my baby?”
