Napoli emerged 2-0 winners away at the San Siro against Milan, with two first-half goals enough to hand Fonseca’s side their third Serie A defeat of the season. Football Italia was at the game, here are the player ratings:

Maignan 5.5 – Not on his best night, as he let the ball in at the near post and didn’t seem particularly responsive to Kvaratskhelia’s long-range shot.

Emerson Royal 5.5 – Kvara left too much space to put Napoli’s second goal of the night on target and his offensive contribution was meaningless. (62′ Pulisic 6)

Pavlovic 5.5 – Tasked with limiting Lukaku, he immediately paid the price for keeping him onside. Although he improved after that, his deflection was still deadly for the Rossoneri.

Thiaw 6 – Limited his mistakes and was not particularly to blame for Napoli’s goals.

Terraciano 5.5 – He did a good job containing Politano, but that was all of his night.

Musah 5:5 – His soft marking on Anguissa crucially allowed the midfielder to turn and set up Lukaku. Then he tried it

Fofana 6.5 – As a valuable asset to his defense, he can be found wherever a teammate needs him. But Napoli is too much for him alone.

Chukwueze 6 – Although he appeared inspired, his team’s attacking presence was too limited and inconsistent to give him enough chances to hurt Napoli.

Loftus cheek 5 – He is a faded version of the midfielder that many admired last season, as he lost the ball many times and failed to express his physicality when battling in midfield against his colleagues. (87′ Camarda n/a)

Okafor 5.5 – He tried to take the initiative in the first half but failed to create any real danger. (62′ Leo 6)

Morata 6 – A spectacular back-heel assist in the first half and a goal in the second half that was ultimately disallowed could have brought Milan into the competition. Difficult and unhappy night.

Fonseca 5.5 – With a team further weakened by Pulisic’s last-minute absence, he could have considered changing his mind on Leao. His team did what they could but simply looked toothless against a confident Napoli team.

Napoli reviews

Meret 6.5 – The visitors’ goalkeeper was always attentive and gave a sense of security by capping his evening with a fine save against Leao.

Di Lorenzo 6.5 – The Italy international put in a solid performance, proving difficult to overcome and playing direct and simple passes as Conte demanded.

Buongiorno 7 – Another defensive masterstroke as he won every ball that passed alongside him and also proved lucky to have his only deflection when Morata scored from an offside position early on.

Rrhamani 6.5 – Followed the rhythm of his strong defense partner and benefited from it.

Olivera 6 – A confident performance that involved him in many duels. (94′ Zerbin n/a)

Anguissa 7 – He set up Lukaku’s first opener quickly and accurately, but that was just the beginning of an overall great performance.

Gilmour 6 – The Scotland international took few risks with his passes and was accurate enough to keep his team’s game flowing. (94′ Folorunsho n/a)

McTominay 6.5 – His impressive composure and physicality made him a dominant presence in midfield.

Politano 6 – The former Inter player was the least enthusiastic of the visiting trio and was the first to be substituted. (68′ Mazzocchi 6)

Kvarachelia 7 – An important and beautiful goal, even though he barely scored anything else. (77′ Neres 6)

Lukaku 6.5 – Seized Napoli’s first chance of the game, paving the way for a decisive win. That being said, he still seemed far from his best but did his best to keep Milan’s defenders busy. (77′ Simone 6)

Content 7 – Milan’s absence meant the pressure was on his side, but the Partenopei responded brilliantly, showing character and calm and extending their lead at the top of Serie A to seven points.
