Semi-trailer crashes into house in New York state after driver falls asleep

New York State Police said in a press release that officers were called to a collision between a semi-trailer and a home in the town of Oakfield shortly before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

State police said an investigation revealed that a 2012 Western Star tractor-trailer traveling westbound struck a parked vehicle and an occupied residence. The driver of the truck was identified as a 61-year-old North Tonawanda man who fell asleep at the wheel, according to state police.

State police said the truck driver was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver also received traffic tickets, state police said.

According to WHEC, none of the four people in the affected home were injured. According to police, the family members were all residents of the northern part of the state at the time of the accident, which most likely prevented injuries.
