Selena Gomez is one of the youngest female billionaires

Selena Gomez is many things: actress, singer, cook, Instagram icon and best friend of Taylor Swift. And now the “Only Murders in the Building” star can boast another honor: she is one of America’s youngest self-made billionaires.

The 32-year-old Gomez is worth $1.3 billion, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The sources of her wealth are as varied as her numerous careers. More than 80% of her net worth comes from her cosmetics brand Rare Beauty, but she also makes money from her acting and singing career and her partnerships with brands like Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Puma.

“Selena is not just a pop star,” Stacy Jones, founder and CEO of Hollywood Branded, a Los Angeles-based branding agency, told Bloomberg. “She is a multifaceted businesswoman with multiple income streams that contribute to her impressive net worth.”

Crucially, Gomez is also open about her personal life and her struggles with lupus and bipolar disorder. In 2022, she released the documentary My Mind and Me, documenting her experiences with mental illness. A year earlier, she launched the platform Wondermind, which connects people with mental health resources.

“You have a real role model of how a celebrity can use their influence and expertise to do good and do good business,” Wondermind investor Brent Saunders told Bloomberg. “Selena embodies that.”

While many celebrities have their own cosmetic lines, Rare Beauty’s blockbuster success is often attributed to Gomez’s ability to speak openly about her struggles.

“We really tried to absorb as much as we could about what makes them so special and why people love them so much, and that’s where the essence started,” said Mehdi Mehdi, Chief Digital Officer of Rare Beauty. Women’s clothing for everyday wear the company’s brand presence.

“The more we got into it, the more her vulnerability came through,” Mehdi continued. “She was so open and honest about who she is and the struggles and challenges she goes through, and it felt like everyone could just see themselves in her.”

Bloomberg estimates that, in addition to Rare Beauty, about seven percent of Gomez’s wealth comes from endorsements, about five percent from touring, and just under three percent from Wondermind. The rest of her wealth is tied to album sales, streaming, acting, and real estate holdings.
