Tesla has officially unveiled its Robotaxi Cybercab, a long-awaited and highly anticipated fully autonomous vehicle that the company says will revolutionize personal transportation. The vehicle was unveiled to the world on October 10 at a Tesla event at Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles.

During his presentation, CEO Elon Musk mentioned that the Cybercab will enter production before 2027 and will cost less than $30,000. Real-world Unsupervised Full Self Driving (FSD) testing for use in the Cybercab is expected to begin sometime next year in California and Texas.

Below is a brief overview of the Cybercab, its features, price and other features.

Design and tire specifications

When the Cybercab appeared on the “We, Robot” livestream, it was immediately clear why the vehicle was named that way. The Cybercab’s front end and futuristic design theme were obviously inspired by the Cybertruck, although its curves and lines are inspired by Tesla’s other vehicles, not the brutalist pickup.

The Cybercab’s wheels are also equipped with aero covers, some of which extend into the tires themselves. This gives the Cybercab a very futuristic look and should also contribute to the efficiency of the vehicle. Event attendees also noticed that the robotaxi runs on 225/60/R21 tires at the rear.

Cabin, cargo and loading

Tesla did not provide details about the exact dimensions of the Cybercab’s interior and cargo area, although videos and images shared by attendees at the event showed that the passenger area is quite spacious. Press photos of the Cybercab suggest it would also have a decent amount of cargo space, likely exceeding the Model 3’s trunk.

The Tesla Cybercab will not have a NACS port. Instead, the vehicle would use an inductive charging system. Tesla has been working on wireless inductive charging for some time and acquired Wiferion last year. The company has also shared teaser images of an inductive charging setup in the past.

Price and possible variants

Musk says the Tesla Cybercab will cost less than $30,000, making the vehicle very competitively priced. Such a price is quite reasonable for a vehicle like the Cybercab, especially for those who want to use the car as a corporate fleet vehicle.

However, it should be noted that Tesla has only introduced the driverless Cybercab for now. Previous reports suggest that the Cybercab could have a sibling model that would come with a steering wheel and pedals. Such a vehicle could be a huge success in markets such as Asia and Europe.

Production and delivery date

Tesla said production of the Cybercab is expected to begin in 2026, and while he admits he can be very ambitious with his timelines, he confirmed that production is targeted “before 2027.” Musk also did not mention the expected delivery date of the vehicle or the place of production. However, given that the Cybercab is expected to be built using the company’s unboxed process, it wouldn’t be surprising if the vehicle was produced at the Giga Texas complex.
