Search cannot find wife and children who crossed Niagara Falls

The search for a woman and two children crossing Niagara Falls on Monday was unsuccessful, according to New York State Police.

New York State Park Police and the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to an incident on or around Goat Island in Niagara Falls around 9 p.m. Monday, troopers said.

The investigation revealed that Chaianti Means, 33, and two children, 9 years old and 5 months old, all from Niagara Falls, crossed the safety railings and walked over Niagara Falls onto Luna Island, which is part of Goat Island.

Police said the incident was “deliberate in nature” but the circumstances surrounding the incident were still under investigation.

Search and rescue operations by the New York State Police and New York State Park Police produced “negative results.”

There is no threat to public safety, police said.

Assisting in the investigation are New York State Park Police Unmanned Aircraft Systems, New York State Park Police Marine Patrol, New York State Police Aviation, Underwater Recovery Unit, Niagara Falls Police Department and Niagara Falls Charter Schools.
