Seahawks sign former Vikings starting quarterback Jaren Hall to practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks finally have their third quarterback.

With the team set to return to practice on Monday, the Seahawks have signed former Minnesota Vikings starter Jaren Hall to the practice squad. Wide receiver Easop Winston Jr., one of Seattle’s preseason standouts, was released to make room for Hall, a fifth-round pick from BYU.

The Seahawks started this year’s preseason with PJ Walker as their third-string quarterback, but a disappointing performance in training camp and in-game resulted in him not being named to the 53-man roster or practice squad. In comes Jaren Hall, who already gained starting experience as a rookie with the Vikings. When Kirk Cousins was out for the rest of the season due to injury, Hall was called up, but didn’t even get past the opening quarter against the Atlanta Falcons before suffering a concussion.

With his fading playoff hopes hanging in the balance, Hall was chosen as the starter in place of Nick Mullens in Week 17 against the Green Bay Packers. Things went very poorly, with Hall completing only half of his 10 passes for 78 yards and losing the ball twice before being substituted at halftime. Hall played against the Seahawks in the final preseason game and completed 6 of 14 passes for 37 yards.

Before being released by the Vikings, Hall, 26, had a much better preseason than his rookie season, completing 28 of 46 passes for 339 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Hall will wear number 15, the same number previously worn by Walker.
