Scottsbluff Police Release School Safety Update for Community

From Scottsbluff Police Chief Kevin Spencer:

The Scottsbluff Police Department and local law enforcement have launched multiple investigations into several threatening social media posts. We are committed to identifying and addressing individuals who create and share this threatening information.

I want to reassure parents and the community that we take all threats seriously. There will be an increased police presence on and around all school premises while we investigate.

Parents, please tell your child that we take threats to their safety very seriously. We will investigate and pursue charges against anyone who creates, shares, or otherwise posts such threats.

Please report threats immediately to an adult, teacher, administrator, counselor, or police officer if you see them. I want to thank everyone who forwarded screenshots or information to us. The Scottsbluff School District, Scottsbluff Police Department, and local law enforcement agencies responded quickly and spent a lot of time investigating all reports. We take every single threat to one of our schools seriously and investigate them thoroughly.

We again urge all community members to immediately report ANY threatening post or image they find on social media to law enforcement. Please do not assume that we are aware of every single post or other verbal or written threat. We want to know. Your vigilance and active participation are critical to keeping our community safe.

On Wednesday, Scottsbluff Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Andrew Dick issued a similar message
