School bus crash in Texas: Cement truck driver charged with four felonies

A Bastrop County grand jury has indicted the driver alleged to have caused a fatal school bus crash in March.

Jerry Hernandez, 42, is accused of four serious crimes in connection with the accident.

In March, Hernandez was driving a cement mixer on Highway 21 when he crossed the double yellow marker and collided with a Hays CISD bus carrying 44 preschool children and 11 adults returning from a field trip.

5-year-old Ulises Rodriguez Montoya was killed.

According to a report from the Texas Department of Transportation, the truck continued down the road and struck the front of another vehicle, killing UT student Ryan Wallace.

Hernandez was charged with two counts of manslaughter and two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

The indictment states that he did not take evasive action to avoid a collision with the vehicles.

Hernandez admitted to using cocaine the morning of the accident after sleeping only three hours and using marijuana the night before.
