MEDLEY, Fla – A decades-old holiday tradition in South Florida will not be happening this holiday season.

Santa’s Enchanted Forest announced on Instagram Tuesday that it will be “closed for the 2024 season as we reflect on four magical decades of treasured memories and plans for the future.”

The attraction has been a staple of many South Florida families’ holiday seasons for about 40 years.

In 1984, the owners of Santa’s Enchanted Forest began leasing land at Tropical Park, 7900 SW 40th St., from Miami-Dade County. This agreement expired in March 2020. According to the park administration, more than a million people visited Santa Claus’ Enchanted Forest every year.

Santa’s Enchanted Forest operated at the location from 1984 to 2020.

When the lease expired, the company moved to Hialeah and most recently to a location at 7400 NW 87th Ave. in medley.

In its place, a holiday attraction called Christmas Wonderland replaced Santa’s Enchanted Forest at Tropical Park. The 2023 season saw a holiday light battle of sorts over the Tropical Park grounds and competing attractions.

This year the Christmas wonderland will stand alone.

“As a beloved tradition in South Florida, we have had the honor of being a part of countless family celebrations, filling the air with twinkling lights, laughter and festive cheer,” Santa’s Enchanted Forest announcement reads. “Although we will not be welcoming visitors this year, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to you for being an integral part of our journey. Your support has been the real magic behind our story.”

It’s not clear if Santa’s Enchanted Forest will make a comeback in 2025.

“As you celebrate the holidays this season, we hope you carry with you the warmth of the memories we created together,” the post reads. “I wish you and your loved ones much joy, love and the special wonder that this season brings.”
