Samsung could make a big design change with its next foldable phone

More news is being reported about the rumored Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. And once again, the news suggests that the new foldable device could borrow some design elements from the company’s Galaxy S24 Ultra.

According to The Elec, the new phone could have a titanium backplate similar to that of the company’s flagship. If true, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim would be the company’s first titanium foldable device. Until now, the backplates of Samsung’s foldable devices have been made of stainless steel or carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP).

CFRP, used on the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6, helps with S Pen recognition, a key feature that dates back to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Unlike stainless steel, CFRP doesn’t interfere with the stylus’s recognition, while a metal backplate can. This is because these devices use a digitizer to detect the stylus.

The switch to titanium on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim suggests that it would not feature S Pen recognition. The report says that Samsung has not yet decided and could use stainless steel or CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) on the phone.

A month ago, a report said that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim could have the same aspect ratio as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. If true, this would mean a wider screen compared to the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, this does not mean that the screen size is the same on the newer model.

The same report said the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim could feature a 6.5-inch cover display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. In contrast, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch display. The new phone could also have an 8.7-inch inner display instead of the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s standard 7.6-inch display.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim could be unveiled very soon. Unfortunately, the new phone is only expected to be launched in China and South Korea, not in the US or anywhere else.

The regular Galaxy Z Fold 6 was launched alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the newer model features a slightly larger cover display, an improved chipset, and more.
