Saginaw Co. 911 introduces AI-based phone system for non-emergency calls

SAGINAW CO., Michigan (WNEM) – Saginaw County 911 announced it will implement an advanced AI-based phone system to improve service to the community on its non-emergency number.

The dispatch center said this new system will streamline non-emergency calls so dispatchers can focus on emergency calls, resulting in better response times and better quality of service.

According to the agency, the new system allows callers to interact naturally. They can describe their situation and the system will understand them and guide them through the further process.

All calls are reviewed by a dispatcher and if additional information is needed, it is requested via call or text message, the dispatch center said. In addition, if the caller requires direct assistance from a dispatcher, the system immediately forwards the call.

Saginaw County 911 said this new phone system will go live for non-emergency calls on August 27. Callers are encouraged to speak to the new system as if they were talking to a human.

The non-emergency number is 989-797-4580.

In case of emergency, call 911.
