“Sacramento Kings Strike Deal That Could Lead to Signing of Oshae Brissett”

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Kings agreed on Monday to trade Jalen McDaniels and a second-round pick to the Spurs.

Charania reports that San Antonio plans to waive McDaniels. The five-year veteran has career averages of 6.9 points and 3.3 rebounds.

Sacramento finished the 2023-24 season with a 46-36 record, advancing to the play-in tournament where the season ended.

With the goal of climbing back up after finishing second in the Western Conference standings in 2022-23, the Kings acquired DeMar DeRozan this summer.

While he adds more points to an already potent offense revolving around De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, the California-based franchise has significant questions surrounding his ability to string together stops.

McDaniels is best known for his defensive prowess, so trading for him is a move that deserves attention.

With a spot open on the roster, Sacramento may look to bolster its defense by signing Oshae Brissett.

The 26-year-old winger has attracted international interest from several suitors but remains without a contract.

The fifth-year winger averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in his only appearance with the Celtics while playing 11.5 minutes per game in 55 regular season appearances.

He also appeared in the playoffs. In Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals, against his former team, Brissett contributed to a small-ball lineup that posted a 20-0 first-half victory over the Pacers. He then played a role in a 7-0 victory late in the third quarter that helped Boston take a 13-point lead heading into the final frame of a victory that put them halfway to the Larry O’ Brien Trophy brought.

While McDaniels’ presence with the Boston Celtics was a factor in SI ruling the Kings out of potential landing spots, which is best suited for Brissett as he looks for his next opportunity, Monday’s trade changes the equation. It could lead to the former Syracuse star taking his talent to Sacramento.
