Sabrina Carpenter at Amalie • St. Pete Catalyst

Pop singer Sabrina Carpenter, who performs at the Amalie Arena on Friday, is the star of the record charts this week:

Three singles from their No. 1 album Short and sweet reached the top 10 singles chart – “Please Please Please” (their first chart-topper in June), then “Taste” and then “Expresso”, which is at No. 3 and rising this week.

billboard says: “Carpenter is the first artist to achieve a duration of up to eight weeks with at least three simultaneous Top 10 Hot 100 placements this decade.” Translation: It’s a good thing.

Sabrina Carpenter’s story began 13 years ago when she played a supporting role in the Disney Channel series Girl meets world.

Beach party

The Tampa Bay Beaches Chamber is hosting a free, family-friendly concert Friday at Horan Park, 7701 Boca Ciega Drive, St. Pete Beach. The event, which runs from 6 to 9 p.m., will be led by a Heart tribute band and will feature a silent auction (from hotel stays to gift cards), a raffle, and food and drink for purchase. All proceeds will benefit beach workers who lost their jobs as a result of the hurricanes. For more information, call 727-360-6957.

Jazz singer Samara joy is Friday at the Capitol Theater. This show was originally postponed due to the arrival of Hurricane Milton. Tickets.

Friday at Yuengling Center: Rapper Lattonamed “Best Female Hip-Hop Artist” of 2023 by BET. Tickets.

Soul Picnic: A Celebration by Laura Nyro at Stageworks Theater is sold out on Saturday; There are still a few tickets left (here) for the Friday evening performance.

On Saturday at the Mahaffey Theater: The Danish-born metal singer King Diamond and the band that bears his stage name. Tickets.

The 1986 film directed by Jim Henson labyrinth will be shown at Ruth Eckerd Hall on Saturday, featuring isolated vocals from David Bowie – a live band plays while the Goblin King (Bowie) sings. In fact, the band plays all of the music as the film plays. Understood? Tickets.

Insult comic Jeff Rossalso known as “Roastmaster General,” performs Saturday at the Straz Center’s Ferguson Hall. Tickets.

Saturday and Sunday at Morsani Hall (Straz Center): British singer-songwriter Rex Orange County (Alexander O’Connor), a protégé of Tyler the Creator, whose album “Who Cares” reached number 1 in his homeland. Tickets.

The Martin Barre Band returns to the Central Park Performing Arts Center in Largo on Monday (October 28). Barre, of course, was lead guitarist for Jethro Tull from 1969 until about 2012 (it’s a long story). Here’s the guy who played those breathtaking riffs and solos on “Aqualung”, “Thick as a Brick”, “Minstrel in the Gallery” and many, many others. His band does vintage Tull better than Ian Anderson’s current incarnation of the band. Tickets.

On theater stages

The Boy Who Loved Batman continues at the Straz Center’s Jaeb Theater, starring David M. Jenkins. Jenkins, the producing artistic director of Jobsite Theater, is also the head of that company’s Halloween offering. Gorey stories, next door at the Shimberg Playhouse. Tickets for both shows are available here.

American Stage artistic director Helen R. Murray wrote the historic, hysterical Halloween show Strange in St. Petewhich is now on stage – well, it’s a stage of sorts – at the multicolored arts attraction FloridaRAMA, part of Factory St. Pete. Tickets can be found here.

Radio theater project returns on the 15thTh Season Monday (October 28) at 7 p.m. at The Studio@620; It’s the annual Halloween show. Bonnie Agan and James Rayfield from the “Live Radio Show” company are our guests on Friday Art is alive! Podcast. Tickets are available at the box office.

The Florida Orchestra

The Florida Orchestra puts the classics aside Concerts on the weekendboth at the Mahaffey Theater. There’s a tropical theme coming up on Friday (8 p.m.) – that’s it Parrots and palm treesa symphonic interpretation of songs by Jimmy Buffett, plus “Brown Eyed Girl,” “Blue Bayou,” “Southern Cross,” “Kokomo” and other loose stuff. TFO is accompanied by a guest singer.

Sunday at 2 p.m. there will be the “Haunted Halls” family concert, where the TFO musicians will be dressed in Halloween costumes (as recommended for the audience) and will perform music from Star Wars, Jaws, Pirates of the Caribbean, Nightmare Before Christmas, ET and more.
