Russell Wilson hits George Pickens for the Steelers’ first touchdown

PITTSBURGH – Welcome to Pittsburgh, Russell Wilson.

The former Seahawks and ex-Broncos quarterback teamed with wide receiver George Pickens for Wilson’s first touchdown as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers on an 11-yard back-shoulder throw against the New York Jets on Sunday.

Pickens caught the pass with 27 seconds left in the first half and the touchdown cut the Jets’ lead to 15-13. The scoring throw erased a rocky start for Wilson, who looked rusty in his first start after battling a lingering calf injury that delayed his debut with the franchise.

But the veteran found a way to capitalize on undrafted free agent Beanie Bishop Jr.’s interception of Aaron Rodgers, driving the offense to 54 yards in four plays over 48 seconds.

The drive began with an 11-yard completion to Van Jefferson, and Wilson targeted Pickens deep two plays later. Pickens triggered a defensive pass interference call against Sauce Gardner to move the ball 29 yards to the 11-yard line.

Two plays later, Wilson threw to Pickens again, this time for the score – marking Wilson and Pickens’ first score of the season.
