Royals Rumblings – News from October 10, 2024

The Royals are in a bind after last night’s defeat:

Entering the 2024 Division Series, the team won Game 3 in best-of-five postseason series tied 1-1, winning the series 45 of 62 times (73%). In the current 2-2-1 format, teams that led 2-1 and played Game 4 on the road won the series 22 out of 33 times (67%). Of those 22 series wins, 18 came in Game 4 on the road.

Michael Wacha is ready to start the season:

“I don’t really think much about the line,” Wacha said before Wednesday’s game. “I want to go out there and give our guys a chance to win a ballgame, just like every other start of the season.” And this one is no different. We want to go out there, hopefully go deep and give our guys a chance to win a ball game.”

Patrick Mahomes was present at yesterday’s game:

Mahomes was seen celebrating in a suite after the clutch tap, jumping up and down and walking up to one of his former teammates who was wearing a Yankees jacket. That former teammate is Gehrig Dieter, who is named after Lou Gehrig and is apparently a die-hard Bronx Bombers fan.

Salvador Perez feels at home in the postseason:

This is October. “This is what he lives for,” said Cole Ragans, the winning pitcher in Game 2 of the ALDS. Ragans learned this last year as he grew into an ace under Perez’s tutelage. Even though Perez’s body barks at him and tells him that men in their mid-30s aren’t designed to catch regularly in the big leagues, he overcomes the physical challenges because he craves the mental ones.

“I love thinking about the game,” Perez said. “I want to take responsibility. I tell these guys: Give me all the pressure. I have it. I want to think about fastball, slider, curveball, how we got him out of the last at-bat, what we’re doing now, what he’s looking for. That’s why I love catching so much.”
